The Shrader Home Construction Company strives to incorporate new and innovative materials to improve the overall quality, comfort, and aesthetic appeal of the homes that are built.  Examples include new products for spray foam insulation; automated electrical systems for energy efficiency and convenience; and the use of insulated concrete forms below and above the ground. 

Due to the growth in the north Alabama region, Shrader has had frequent occasion to work with owners who are relocating to the area. In recognition of the fact that the remote owner presents a unique challenge that can only be addressed through good communication, Shrader pays particular attention to this need.  The Company prides itself in its communication techniques, keeping owners informed about schedules, costs, changes and alternatives.   Shrader maintains this communication person-to-person if the situation allows, but also by telephone and email. Digital photos are taken at each phase to allow the owner to observe the progress of construction or to see some important element of detail.  The future plan is to be able to post these photos on the Company web site, in addition to transmission by email, so that the owner can view the project at his or her convenience.

Scott Shrader’s experience in the industry has been valuable in creating an awareness of the need for improved standards, not only in construction techniques but especially in business practices.  Having a satisfied client after a construction project is completed is the ultimate objective.  The interim steps to achieving that objective include:

  1. Establishing good two-way communications with the owner at the outset of the project;
  2. Having a clear mutual understanding of the end product, which usually means having a complete set of architectural plans and specifications;
  3. Developing detailed estimates of project costs (a budget) using the plans and specifications provided by the owner;
  4. Developing schedules for interim benchmarks and project completion and making sure that the owner has a good understanding of the factors which could impact the schedules;
  5. Maintaining good project accounting practices and communicating deviations from the budget in a timely and thorough manner so that the owner is acutely aware of the financial progress of the house, to compare with the construction progress of the house.
