The Joe Wheeler State Park and Resort occupies three separate locations
in North Alabama. Inside this 2550-acre park you will find exciting
games, fun activities, special events and delicious foods.
* Playing golf
at the Joe Wheeler State Park: This is certainly a good place for
golfers and golf lovers, greens fees are reasonable and
golfers can enjoy playing 18 Holes Golf with cart without breaking the
bank. Moreover, they offer a golf package which includes a
room at the hotel, tasty dinner and breakfast along with the golf.
* Fishing
at the Joe Wheeler State Park: People who love fishing can enjoy this
adventurous activity at this wonderful park. Common
species like Bream, Crappie, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass
and Catfish are available in the lake of the park. You can
also access various boat ramps like creek boat ramp, cabin
area boat ramp, TVA, Wheeler Dam boat ramp and Elk river group lodge.
The park organizes various water tournaments throughout the year to
attract visitors.
* Camping
facilities at the Joe Wheeler State Park: Surrounded by tall pines, the
campgrounds inside the park are the favorite places for campers. There
are 116 campsites and among them only 6 campsites are a primitive
design without electricity. However, inside the campground,
you will find a modern bathhouse with hot showers. Some of the
camp sites even offer you a unique view of the river.
* Picnic
at the Joe Wheeler State Park: This wonderful park is a favorite spot
for family and group picnics. Here you will find wide pavilions for
picnics with facilities like a swimming area, basketball and tennis
courts, horseshoe pit, and fishing holes for people who love
fishing. The beauty of the Tennessee River is always there with you.
* Spending Eagle Weekend
at the Joe Wheeler State Park: The Eagle Weekend ceremony is held in
Joe Wheeler Park in the month of January. Bird lovers and bird watchers
enjoy this adventurous occasion. This spectacular weekend includes
informative events on Alabama Eagles (like you will see routinely see
at the mountain
property of the Eagle Watch neighborhood of The Bluffs),
trip to Wheeler Wildlife Refuge and North Alabama Birding Trial Tour,
and local bird watching from water rides on Wheeler Lake. And when you
are hungry, enjoy various types of delicious foods and continental
breakfast.
* Boating
at the Joe Wheeler State Park: Joe Wheeler marina is located near the
Wheeler Dam - the place from where you can view the serenity of
Tennessee River. The park offers both covered and open sailboat slips.
These boats are typically available to rent. Other than sailboat slips
there are small and large covered docks with boats ranging from 23 feet
to 31 feet. For transient boaters, the park has 64 transient slips.
Other facilities include restrooms with shower, washer and dryer, pool,
restaurant and a store that offers snacks, drinks, and fishing tackle,
T-shirt etc.
